Phillip rejoined Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine, a division of McGriff Insurance Services, Inc., in 2001. He has been in the financial services and fiduciary industries since 1974. Prior to joining SHDR, Phillip led the trust departments of two regional banks and a brokerage company.

He has earned the following professional designations: Certified Financial Services CounselorTM (CFSC®), Certified Trust and Financial AdvisorTM (CTFA®), Accredited Investment FiduciaryTM (AIF®), Chartered Mutual Fund CounselorTM (CMFC®) and Flexible Compensation Specialist (FCS). He also holds FINRA Series 7, 24, 63, as well as North Carolina Life and Health licenses.

Phillip holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in trust management and an MBA from Campbell University. He also holds a master's degree in organizational leadership and management from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Phillip is a graduate of the National Graduate Trust School, sponsored by the American Bankers Association and Northwestern University, and the School for Bank Administration with a major in trust management, sponsored by the Bank Administration Institute and the University of Wisconsin.

Brian has more than 22 years of experience in employee benefits consulting and administration, all with SHDR. His role as managing practice leader for Retirement & Benefits Consulting includes retirement, group healthcare, compensation and benefit plan compliance services.

He is responsible for daily operations, management oversight and strategic planning for the individual practice areas. He oversees the delivery of client services, actuarial and pension administration systems, new business development, product development, performance metrics, regulatory and compliance issues, risk management, and quality control. He also leads the integration of the healthcare consulting strategy for SHDR, including actuarial, compliance and regulatory developments.

Brian is a graduate of Wake Forest University with a bachelor of science degree in mathematical economics. He also earned his MBA from the Wake Forest University School of Business in 2010 where he received the Leadership Award for outstanding academic and leadership performance. He is currently certified with the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA) as a Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) and a Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA).

Ryan joined Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine in June 2012 and currently serves as practice leader for the Flex and COBRA Services team. Prior to this appointment, Ryan served as the team leader for the ERISA and Benefits Compliance team within SHDR. He has more than 21 years of experience in ERISA administration, including employee benefits, compliance, and trust and custody. Prior to joining SHDR, Ryan served as a client relationship officer for a top-tier global custodian servicing defined benefit, defined contribution, health and welfare, and non-profit clients.

Ryan holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting and business administration from High Point University, NC. He also holds his Health Insurance Associate and Managed Healthcare professional designations from AHIP.

Edward has more than 14 years of experience working as a healthcare actuary, most recently as a consulting actuary with Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine (SHDR).

Edward' experience covers actuarial work for both fully insured and self-insured groups, and his expertise ranges from individual products to Medicare products, as well as underwriting and ancillary products, such as dental.

He holds an associate designation with the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and has been a member of the American Academy of Actuaries since 2008.

Edward is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor's degree in mathematics.

Susan has been in the human resource and employee benefits consulting business for more than 30 years. Susan was one of the owners of Benefit Consultants of Virginia and became part of the BB&T family of insurance agencies in 2002.

Susan chairs the BB&T healthcare reform compliance practice, working throughout the corporate footprint helping their clients with education and implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), otherwise known as healthcare reform.

Susan has been speaking to numerous employer and business groups since March 23, 2010, to explain PPACA. She has served twice as the national legislative chair for the National Association of Health Underwriters in 2003 and again in 2009. She has also been an invited panelist for the Virginia Health Reform Initiative task force and is active in attending those meetings. In the fall of 2014, Susan was invited to the White House to speak with administration officials on employer concerns with PPACA compliance and implementation issues.

She holds both her Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and Registered Employee Benefits Consultant® (REBC®) professional designations.

Kenneth M. Johnson, JD

Ken Johnson joined Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine in early 2015 as the practice leader for ERISA and Employee Benefit Compliance.

Ken supervises and assists staff providing specialized guidance in various laws affecting welfare and employee benefit plans including, but not limited to: the Internal Revenue Code (Code), the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

He also aids the compliance staff with Form 5500s, wrap plan documents, Section 125 plan documents and certain discrimination testing under Code Sections 105(h), 125 and 129.

Ken has more than 30 years of employee benefit experience. For approximately 15 years, he was a director in a major law firm in Greensboro, NC, working exclusively in the area of employee benefits while serving as president of the firm from 2005 to 2010. Prior to returning home to North Carolina in 1999, Ken spent 15 years in Washington, DC, primarily representing multi-employer pension and welfare plans.

Ken has worked with insured plans, self-funded plans, Section 125 plans, flexible spending accounts, health reimbursement arrangements and health savings accounts. He has counseled employers and plan administrators regarding ACA, COBRA and HIPAA compliance in addition to other reporting and disclosure requirements under ERISA and the Code.

Although he now focuses on non-retirement employee benefit plan consulting, Ken’s prior work included all aspects of designing, drafting, implementing, maintaining and terminating tax-qualified retirement plans. He also has extensive ERISA litigation experience.

Ken received his law degree, with honors, from the George Washington University and his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Anne joined Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine (SHDR) in 2014. Most recently, Anne worked for a global employee benefits consulting firm as a senior associate, compliance and advisory specialist and contracts manager, providing legal and compliance advice related to the healthcare, insurance and employee benefits industries. Prior to this, Anne practiced in the areas of medical malpractice and personal injury before joining a life insurance brokerage firm as a licensing, compliance and regulatory affairs counsel.

She holds an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation and is working toward completion of a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation as well a Healthcare Compliance Professional and Fellow, Health Insurance Advanced Studies designation.

Anne attended the University of Iowa where she obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration, and Drake University, from which she obtained her Juris Doctor.

Mary Ferne Emery

Ferne joined Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine in September 2014 and serves as the team leader for the ERISA and Benefits Compliance team. She also serves as a member of the multiple BB&T healthcare compliance committees. Ferne's experience with employee benefits and health and welfare plans spans over 9 years. Prior to joining SHDR, she was a senior member of the Sales and Service team at ACS Benefit Services, Inc., where she was the lead sales contact for all new business prospects on the self-funded welfare benefits platform.

She will graduate with honors in December of 2017 from Salem College with a degree in integrative studies, focusing on communication in healthcare management. She is often invited to speak to Salem's alumnae groups and at orientation seminars on topics affecting the Salem community.

Eddie joined Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine in 2015. At SHDR, he leads the retirement practice, serving as chief actuary. His experience in actuarial consulting spans over 35 years, working with organizations of all sizes and sectors throughout the US and abroad. In addition to experience at traditional consulting firms, he has worked in the accounting/assurance sector, and was the in-house actuary for a global defense and telecommunications manufacturer.

He has extensive experience consulting on retirement benefit programs and providing actuarial services relating to the design, installation and operation of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans. Practice areas include ERISA compliance, financial analysis, risk measurement and management, benefit plan design, executive compensation, actuarial valuations for funding and accounting expense, governmental valuations, plan terminations, asset/liability matching, benchmarking, labor negotiations, acquisitions and divestitures, talent management, leadership development, and strategic planning. He is a regular speaker to industry groups on regulatory issues, accounting issues and emerging trends in benefits.

Eddie earned degrees in mathematics and physics from Guilford College. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

Since 1983, Steve's experience with retirement benefits has included qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, along with other post-employment benefits. He has provided clients with effective solutions to manage plan costs by coordinating benefits, funding and investment polices with plan-sponsor objectives.

Steve is responsible for developing business by providing guidance to clients with strategic pension advice including the analysis of de-risking options. He develops solutions with our team's innovative and creative ideas that enhance service delivery and reduce the cost of benefits administration.

He helps clients manage employee benefit plans in a cost effective manner while coping with government legislation. He designs non-qualified retirement plans used as an executive compensation and retention tool.

Steve is a graduate of the University of Michigan's mathematics and actuarial science program. He has been invited to present actuarial, pension and retirement topics at training and continuing education meetings held by various human resource and finance professional associations.

Myiah joined Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine in 2017 and has worked in the employee benefit field since 2006. Throughout his career, he has provided retirement plan consulting and actuarial services to organizations, including for-profit and nonprofit, of all sizes and industries across the US and abroad.

His experience with retirement benefits includes actuarial valuations for funding, and accounting expense and disclosure. Myiah has experience with retirement risk reduction projects, including bulk lump sum offerings, and annuity purchase analysis and implementation. His experience also includes analysis and implementation of labor negotiations; acquisitions and divestitures; the design and implementation of early retirement windows; government forms filing, proxy disclosure and hospital insurance (HI) tax calculations; benefit administration; personalized communication statements; and projections of cash and expense requirements.

He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. Myiah received a bachelor of science in actuarial science from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, and a postgraduate diploma in actuarial science from City University: Cass Business School in London, England.

Robert joined Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine in 2006 and has worked in the employee benefit field since 1998. Throughout his career, he has provided retirement plan consulting and actuarial services to clients in the private and public sectors.

His experience includes actuarial consulting and administration of single- and multi-employer retirement plans, supplemental executive retirement plans and post-retirement medical plans, accounting valuations for plans under Financial Accounting Standards Board and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board requirements, plan terminations, and special studies. In addition, he manages the firm's team of actuarial analysts and project leaders.

Robert received his bachelor of science degree in actuarial science from Bowling Green State University, where he was the president and co-founder of the Actuarial Science Society and a member of the Honors Student Association. He is an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA as well as a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and Conference of Consulting Actuaries.

Megan joined Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine in 2010 and has worked in the employee benefits field since 2004. Her current roles include providing consulting and administrative services to sponsors of qualified and non-qualified defined benefit plans, cash balance plans, and Other Post Retirement Employee Benefits (OPEB) plans. Services include funding and accounting valuations, coordination of service transition for new clients, special studies, regulatory compliance and governmental forms.

She received a bachelor of science degree in computer science and a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from Duke University. She has completed the first four actuarial exams sponsored by the Society of Actuaries, and is currently working toward actuarial enrollment under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).

Wayne joined Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine in 2015 and has worked in the employee benefits field since 1998. He is responsible for providing actuarial and administrative consulting to clients for their defined benefit pension, post-retirement welfare and supplemental executive retirement plans. Prior to joining SHDR, Wayne worked for a regional employee benefits firm for 14 years, providing various actuarial consulting services to plan sponsors. Wayne started his career in benefits with a large, multi-national manufacturing firm, working in their in-house benefits division to provide administrative services for the firm's 23,000+ participant defined benefit plan.

His experience includes funding and accounting valuations for single- and multi-employer defined benefit pension plans, accounting valuations for post-retirement welfare and supplemental executive retirement plans, deterministic forecasts and studies, regulatory compliance, government form filings, plan terminations, and defined benefit plan administration.

Steven is vice president of marketing and sales. He is responsible for assisting clients with the development and design of flexible benefit plans and ERISA Health Care Compliance Services as well as other services provided by Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine (SHDR).

Prior to joining SHDR, Steven spent 23 years with a major restaurant company as director of research and development and director of new product marketing, human relations and operations positions as well as managing 590 restaurants in 17 states.

Steven is a member of the Employers Council on Flexible Compensation, State and Local Government Benefits Association, the National Association of Health Underwriters and the national association of Society for Human Resource Management.

Steven holds an insurance license and FINRA Securities Licenses 6 and 63. He attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Paula is vice president of marketing and sales. She is responsible for assisting clients with the development and design of flexible benefit plans and ERISA Health Care Compliance Services as well as other services provided by Stanley, Hunt, DuPree & Rhine (SHDR). She worked for more than 23 years in Human Resource Administration for both small- and large-sized companies. Most recently Paula served as benefit administration manager for BB&T Human Systems before transferring to SHDR in 2004.

Paula has received the designation of Professional in Human Resources (PHR) from the HR Certification Institute and the designations of Flexible Compensation Specialist (FCS) and Certified in Flexible Compensation (CFC) from the Employers Council of Flexible Compensation (ECFC).

Paula is a graduate of Appalachian State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
